You can find various jobs in the travel, tourism, hotel and hospitality industries in places like Bratislava. If you are going backpacking there are lots of work and volunteer exchanges in hostels.
Winter Jobs in Slovakia
Slovakia has stunning winter landscapes and it may not be as closely associated with skiing, but its snow-covered vistas look as though they have emerged straight out of a picture book.
There are 123 ski resorts in Slovakia with some of the most popular to work at include Jasná Nízke Tatry, Tatranská Lomnica, Vratna, Strbske Pleso and Bachledka Ski & Sun.
Slovakia also offers a popular alternative to Lapland for Christmas breaks and this has created a number of jobs in the tourism industry during this period.
Working in Bratislava
Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, is only a stone’s throw away from the tourist hub of Vienna; however, it is often overlooked with overseas workers. Bratislava’s charm is unique and slightly unconventional; it doesn’t necessarily have the natural beauty of some of the other countries however, it has a humble charm that many other European cities lack. It is perfect if you are looking for an affordable city to live in and can be accessible very easily and quickly by boat.
One unmissable sight is the UFO tower – a structure that looks utterly bizarre but is completely unique to Bratislava. You can take a lift to the top where there is a bar and restaurant as well as a viewing platform. Views extend over the Danube river, the rest of the city and on a clear day you can even see Hungary and Austria. When living here you’ll be able to wander the streets of the old town; dipping into local shops and sampling local delicacies.
Look out to see if you can spot ‘Cumil’, otherwise known as ‘the man at work’, a statue of a man, popping his head out of a hole in the road. The blue church is an art noveau church on the outskirts of the city which is also worth see, it looks almost as if it has been lifted out form a fairy-tale. Other places to see include the Bratislava Castle, Devin Castle and St. Martins Cathedral.
