How do you become an activity instructor?
There’s no set entry route to become an outdoor activity instructor but it may be useful to study a relevant qualification like a Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Skills and Activities for Sport and Active Leisure (Outdoor Education). This would teach you some of the skills needed for the job.

What does an activity instructor do?
Activity instructor usually work at purpose built centres and help young people through a range of adventure activities. You could be leading children from school groups, youth groups such as scouts and guides, or adults from businesses through team building events, families and even stag and hen parties.

Requirements
No qualifications are usually required to work as an activity leader as most companies offer comprehensive training courses to give you the skills, expertise and confidence to do your job. However, you will need to be friendly, have lots of energy and enthusiasm, be able to work in teams and have excellent people skills. If you have experience working with young people, for example volunteering or paid employment with children for example working at a summer camp or youth clubs then this will really boost your employment chances. Good organisation and effective communication skills are also beneficial.
