Types of Jobs in the Drama Industry

With a degree in drama you could work as an actor/actress, broadcast presenter, community arts workers, dramatherapist. runner, broadcasting/film/video, theatre director or stage manager – just to name a few potential careers. Salaries in the drama industry really depend on skills and experience.

When first starting out in the industry most people find work experience placements as runners, helping out behind the scenes in theatre, tv and film. Although usually voluntary or low paid, this can really help open doors and meet people in the industry.

Summer Drama Jobs

Do you like the idea of a summer job working in the United States? If you are studying a drama related degree or qualification, or are a student/graduate looking for a job to earn money and boost your skills and experience you might want to work at a summer camp in the USA.

These jobs last around 3 months from June to September and hundreds of camps hire American and international staff to help children learn and improve their acting skills. This is a great way to boost skills, earn money whilst making new friends and having fun. You’ll need to demonstrate your passion for drama, and some camps will require qualifications, show you are studying or that you have experience too.

Drama Teaching Jobs

If you like the idea of working as a drama teacher as a career you’ll usually need a degree in a relevant subject, such as drama, acting, or theatre studies. Some recruiters might require you to have completed a teacher training courses and you’ll also need a clean criminal record and in the UK pass a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
